Environment: Streams and river tributaries

Water and Hardness: Calcium-magnesium – no more than 3

Water Temperature: 81 degrees

Water pH: 5.5-6.0

In Aquaria:

Physical Appearance: 

•    Yellowish-brown to reddish-brown
•    Top of the head – yellow or white with black spots


•    Red fins with white margin and black submargin
•    Pectoral fins are clear

Size: Fairly small

Feeding in Captivity: Live or frozen food – never dried

Water and Hardness: Soft

Water Temperature: 78-80 degrees Fahrenheit

Water pH: 5.5

Breeding: A larger tank is necessary (15-20 gallon) even though this is a rather small fish. Cover and darken tank with black plastic. Provide floating, surface and rooted vegetation to facilitate territory markers and privacy. For privacy, add a flowerpot and/or driftwood.
