Native Location: North Selangor Province on the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra

Environment:

•    Swampy forests
•    Blackwater streams

Food:

•    Dragonflies
•    Damselflies
•    Nymphs

Water pH: 6

In Aquaria:

Physical Appearance: Similar to native

•    Brown
•    Iridescent green scales along length of body
•    The green in males is brighter
•    New species - iridescent purple

Finnage:Males have longer unpaired fins

Size: More than 4 inches in length

Feeding in Captivity:

Water and Hardness: Low to moderate calcium-magnesium hardness

Water Temperature: 81-84 degrees Fahrenheit

Water pH: 4.4-7.5

Breeding: Acidify the water and provide much needed vegetation. Provide at least a 10 gallon tank, but 20 gallon is preferred. Add hiding places for privacy for the female including driftwood, plants, decorations, flowerpots and PVC tubing.
