Environment: Peat swamps

Water and Hardness: Calcium-magnesium – less than 3

Water Temperature: 80 degrees Fahrenheit

Water pH: 4.5-5.0

In Aquaria:

Physical Appearance:

•    Darkly colored scales
•    Edges tipped with iridescent blue and white
•    Black stripe runs through gill cover
•    Black mark under chin
•    Dark black stripe behind the eye
•    All fins of both sexes have white margins
•    Both have spotted, unpaired fins
•    Male’s fins are longer

Size: 4 inches in length

Feeding in Captivity: Only live or frozen food

Water pH: 5.5-6.5

Breeding: Spawning can last a full day after several failed attempts. Male holds them for nearly two weeks.
