Native Location: Kalimantan and Sumatra

Environment: River drainage areas and swamp forest pools

Water and Hardness: Calcium-magnesium – 0-1; alkalinity 0-1

Water Temperature: 77-79 degrees Fahrenheit

Water pH: 4.6-5.5

In Aquaria:

Physical Appearance: 

•    Male - Reddish brown
•    Male - Iridescent green on flank
•    Male - very bright, yellowish-orange bars on gill cover
•    Female – brown
•    Female – black bars on flank

Finnage:

•    Male – spade-shaped caudal fin
•    Male – indigo blue pelvic and anal fins
•    Male – brown dorsal fin
•    Female – red fins
•    Female – seven black bars from anal fin to flank
•    Female – black on caudal fin

Size: 1.5 inches in length

Feeding in Captivity: Live food only

Water pH: 4.5-5.0

Breeding: This species needs a large (20 gallon) covered tank with RO water. Add abundant floating and rooted vegetation. Peat moss and hardwood leaves help to lower the pH.
