Native Location: Java and Sumatra

Environment: Cool mountain streams

Water and Hardness: Calcium-magnesium hardness - 22

Water Temperature: 72-75 degrees Fahrenheit

Water pH: 6.5-7.5

In Aquaria:

Physical Appearance: Similar to their native habitat

•    Gray with a dark back and two or three horizontal stripes
•    Purple with blotches of bands
•    Some have green-blue scales

Finnage:

•    Males – The anal fin has a purple band and/or rows of purple spots
•    Males – Wide, dark band on the caudal and anal fins
•    Male has bars on its back that are very distinctive and absent in other Betta species

Size: 2.5 inches in length

Feeding in Captivity: Live and frozen food as well as commercial flaked and dried

Water and Hardness: Calcium-magnesium hardness of 22

Water Temperature: 72-75 degrees Fahrenheit

Water pH: Neutral 7.0

Breeding: They need clean, clear and cool water, and frequent water changes promote mass spawning.
