Betta Renata

The Betta Renata is of the Waseri group but is different in certain characteristics. On the throat, this fish has a kidney-shaped black mark. Faint vertical black lines are on the dorsal and caudal fin interradial membranes. They do not have the dark distal border on the anal fin. It's length is largest at about 8.5 centimeters. They live in black waters that drain from peat swamp forests. One can find them also in stagnant water areas collected from the flood run off where there is build up of plant debris and logs. The water is tannin riddled to a tea color and the pH is low at about 4.1. These swamp areas are in northern Jambi, near the swamp forest by Pematang Lumut.
