Native Location: Pinyuh and Kepayang Rivers in West Kalimantan, Borneo

Environment:

Food:

•    Bloodworms
•    Mites
•    Ostracods

Water pH: 4.5

In Aquaria:

Physical Appearance:

•    Deep red
•    Iridescent green scales
•    Younger fish are striped

Finnage:

•    Two dorsal fin spines
•    Two anal fin spines
•    Fused tail fin (unlike any other Betta species)

Size: 1.5 inches in length

Feeding in Captivity: Live and frozen; flaked and dried commercial food

Water and Hardness: Tolerates hard water but doesn’t thrive

Water pH: Lower, more acidic pH

Breeding: This species requires an acidic tank, a diet of live food and dense vegetation.
