moon lights vs no lights during the night?

Postby roseymeow » Mon Aug 26, 2013 10:34 pm

I went to my local fish store and saw these "moon lights" . I was told that fish cannot see the light. So what do you guys think? Would beta fish see these lights during the night time? Or would it disrupt their sleeping cycles somehow? will their colors be intensified by the light?

A fish tank should not have any lights on during the night. A sleep pattern is needed, just like any animal, and even moonlights can stress fish out by not letting them sleep properly. If you are not going to be awake yourself, there seems little need to keep the lights on during the night anyway. As for intensifying colors, Betta fish will have strong colors if they live in healthy conditions. This means having warm, regularly changed, water and having a nutritious diet. Lighting can only effect how well you can see their colors, not how strong they are.
