Hi Jenna
I wouldn't go higher than 28 degrees. One of our heaters malfunctioned not long ago, our neon tetras all died but our betta was fine. Think it was around 30 but wouldn't recommend it long term. HTH.

I agree...bettas can tolerate warmer temps than most fish.

The preferred temp for bettas is 78-82 F

In addition to water temperature, the best way to keep a Betta healthy is to reduce stress and keep a clean tank. How is your Betta doing now? We would love an update:)
